Queer woman-led strategic communications for a just world

Principal Communications & Impact Consultant

Hi, I’m Alexa Hassink (she/her),

I’m a strategic communications consultant for nonprofits, UN agencies, and multilaterals. With over 15 years of experience, I’ve led communications initiatives across 55 countries, focusing on gender equity, violence prevention, and children's rights.

I help organizations like yours create and implement effective communication strategies. Together, we can work to understand your audiences and improve your messaging and tactics to accomplish your goals – even if you’re going through an organizational transition, or your team is low-capacity.

You can hire me as a strategic comms advisor, a fractional chief communications officer, or to lead a complete communications or brand strategy project. My work has included:

  • Leading international campaigns that have shaped national policy commitments, gained top-tier coverage (NYT, Teen Vogue), and earned a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title

  • Growing organizational visibility and revenue through communications strategies and plans that have sparked a 20% annual rise in audience at an international nonprofit and a 20% increase in revenue at a B Corp

  • Driving 4x applications for a gender-focused training program, through the development and implementation of new marketing and outreach plans

  • Building, managing, and mentoring high-performing communications teams and sector-wide learning communities

  • Facilitating human-centered design workshops in the US, Lebanon, Rwanda, and Indonesia to align teams on strategy and messaging

  • Leading staff-wide participatory processes to rename an organization’s national summit, uniting US nonprofits and philanthropies around collective power

  • Turning research into clear takeaways, creating an asset that sparked 226 reposts on a single LinkedIn post and 4 spontaneous translations

  • Sharing insights at global events like Sustainable Brands, Women Deliver, and the UN Commission on the Status of Women

Before starting Alexa Hassink Strategies, I was the Director of Partnerships & Strategic Communications at a creative agency in New York (Radish Lab). I also served as the Director of Marketing & Communications at an international nonprofit in Washington, DC, focused on gender equality and healthy masculinity (Equimundo).

I was a Health Educator with the Peace Corps in Morocco and hold a BA in Communications & Psychology from the University of Delaware.
